Angular Ocean View Home
1930 SF Upper Level
895 SF Lower Level
2,895 SF Total Indoor Area
The client was a couple in their 60s building their new construction dream home for aging-in-place and hosting their adult children and grandchildren for holiday visits.
The Challenge
The lot for this home posed a challenge because it was narrow and directed toward the street, but had beautiful ocean views diagonal from the property lines. We wanted to optimize the views as much as possible while also working within the constraints of the site.
The Solution
We came up with a floor plan that oriented the angles of the home toward the ocean views for a truly unique geometrical result with a stunning backdrop. By designing an open floor plan for the living room, dining room, and kitchen with lots of windows, we created a panoramic experience of the outdoors in the heart of the home.
3 Key Features
Indoor Atrium
A triangular upper-level space brings light into a lower-level indoor garden, creating a serene spot for relaxation. The 2-story light shaft, enhanced by clerestory windows, promotes well-being and air quality.
Japanese Furo
Aya incorporated her Japanese heritage with a Furo, a deep soaking tub and shower ritual, using a spatially efficient "wet room" design that effectively drains water.
Angled Spaces
The client loves “weird angles,” and the site suited this perfectly, allowing us to design an out-of-the-box geometric floor plan that adds visual interest to the living room, kitchen, and exterior.
"I approached Anne with a super vague vision and description of what I wanted and somehow she put onto “paper” a dream that I had only seen in my head. She was very patient with me, extremely professional yet still personable and SUPER PROMPT with all correspondence. I can’t recommend her enough. We are thrilled with the work that she did for us!"
